Cholestasis in newborn and infancy period

چکیده
Sum mary During the newborn and infancy period, it is an important to demonstrate the condition which causes cholestatic liver diseases. If direct bilirubin level is more than 20% of total biluribin, it is defined as cholestasis. Especially early diagnosis of diseases including biliary atresia, tyrosinaemia, galactosemia is crucial for prevention of permanent damage in the future and for benefit from early treatment. Therefore, total, direct and indirect bilirubin levels should be measured in all newborns with jaundice lasting longer than two weeks. If 20% of total bilirubin is direct bilirubin, liverrelated disorders should be questioned. In this review, we aimed to show which clinical and laboratory features should be considered to demonstrate the cause of cholestatic diseases. (Turk Arch Ped 2012; 47: 1-7)

Intrahepatic cholestasis in the newborn.
Hitherto little attention has been paid to cholestatic jaundice in the newborn which occurs in the absence of rhesus incompatibility. 4 such cases, among a consecutive series of 24 newborns with prolonged neonatal jaundice occurring in the Devon and Exeter clinical area since 1960, are here described in detail to demonstrate that their clinical and histological picture, and their prognosis, is ...
متن کاملCholestatic hepatitis as a result of severe cortisol deficiency in early infancy: report of two cases and review of literature.
Cholestatic hepatitis is identified as one of the features of hypopituitarism in the newborn, but the exact etiology of cholestasis in these cases has not been well established yet. We report here two infants, one with isolated glucocorticoid deficiency and the other with multiple pituitary hormone deficiency, indicating primary and central adrenal insufficiency, respectively, who presented wit...

Background: Neonatal cholestasis is an important disease of the liver and biliary ducts in infancy. In neglected cases, the disease has irreversible complications. Idiopathic neonatal hepatitis, biliary atresia, TORCH infections and choledochal cyst are important causes of neonatal cholestasis. The aim of this study was to determine the causes of cholestasis among neonates admitted to the Child...
متن کاملCongenital Nephrotic Syndrome: A Cases Report
Congenital nephrotic syndrome (CNS) can be caused by neonatal infections and renal diseases that usually occur in early infancy. The most common CNS is the Finnish type, which is an autosomal recessively inherited disease characterized by intrauterine onset of massive proteinuria. In this study, we presented a preterm neonate confirmed as the first case of CNS in Iran by genetic study, who was ...
متن کاملCholestasis beyond the Neonatal and Infancy Periods
Cholestasis results from impairment in the excretion of bile, which may be due to mechanical obstruction of bile flow or impairment of excretion of bile components into the bile canaliculus. When present, cholestasis warrants prompt diagnosis and treatment. The differential diagnosis of cholestasis beyond the neonatal period is broad and includes congenital and acquired etiologies. It is impera...
